The regulations on this vary between the chambers of industry and commerce. What is uniform is that the withdrawal from the examination must be made in writing. If the examination invitations have already been sent out and/or there are less than 2 weeks until the date of the examination, a cancellation fee of 50% of the invoice amount is usually due. If you are absent on the day of the exam and do not show up for the exam without an excuse, the full amount will be due. The exam will also be considered as “failed”. If you are absent for an important reason (e.g. illness, confirmed by a doctor’s certificate), the examination will be deemed “failed”. The Chamber of Industry and Commerce decides on the existence of an important reason. More accommodating regulations and exceptions may apply at special times or in exceptional circumstances (e.g. Corona pandemic).
