Repeating the exam
Comprehensive examination / Oral part of the examination
You can take the entire exam as well as the oral part of the exam. Repeat as often as required.
There is no maximum number of (failed) attempts. The only limiting factor could be your wallet, because the (partial) fees are also due again with each examination. If you have already passed the written examination and only have to pass the oral part of the examination, you have up to 2 years to do so. If you still have not taken the oral examination within two years of successfully taking the written examination, you must also repeat the written part of the examination. Participation in the oral examination is normally only possible at the chamber (IHK) where the written part of the examination was previously taken.
Important: For each examination participation, also for repeat examinations, a renewed Registration required!
What does a certificate of competence (Sachkunde-Zeugnis, Sachkunde-Zertifikat) about a successfully passed examination of competence according to § 34a GewO actually look like? You can find an example of such a document and what information it must contain on the next page.
